For this project you will need:
- plywood, 4 mm
thick
- acrylic paint in white, beige, brown, dark red, dark yellow, green and black
- two 2 cm wooden half balls in a natural color or brown
- a small bushel of hay
- paint brushes
- wire for hanging
- drill with small bit
- wood glue and hot glue
- tracing paper
- pencil
|
|
|
|
|
Instructions:
1. Print out the
pattern to fit your paper fully. Transfer the markings onto the wood and
saw the pieces out. If necessary sand down the wood a bit.
2. Paint the pieces accordingly. Drybrush the edges with a contrast
color. For example beige for white, brown for beige, etc... You can also
add some more effect to the painted pieces by speckling them with paint.
To do this, take a toothbrush and dip it into a contrast color. Then
brush your thumb over the toothbrush over the wood pieces and let the
paint sprinkle or speckle onto the wood. You may wish to practice this
technique on a scrap piece of wood before doing it on your project.
3. Once all of your pieces are painted, assemble the fence. Afterwards
glue the hen onto the fence. Use a piece of wire and wrap around a small
bushel of hay. Use hot glue to glue the hay onto the project. Then glue
the eggs onto the fence.
4. Adhere the remaining pieces onto the project.
5. Drill a hole in the top of the left and right fence pieces and hang
with wire.

on the bottom.
4. The middle section gets 2 holes just under the holes from the bottom
of the top piece. And on the bottom of the middle section, drill 2
holes lined up with the holes on the top of the second piece.
5. On the bottom section, drill 2 holes just under the holes of the
bottom of the 2nd piece.
6. Sanding is not required to keep the piece looking “old and rough”.
Paint each piece on all sides and let dry.
7. With the sandpaper sponge, slightly sand the edges to give the
pieces a weathered or antique look.
8. Using the wire, form 4 “U” shaped pieces and insert them into the
pieces to connect them and secure the wire in the back.
9. Cut a longer piece of wire. Wrap the wire around a pencil several
times to form curls in the wire like seen in the picture. In the top of
the top piece of wood, insert the wire to both sides and secure it in
the back.
10. Use raffia to form a bow and attach it to the front of the heart on
one side.
